Stay On Your Game

Stay On Your GameFor many cheerleaders, competition season has recently started and will continue for a few months. To stay valuable to your team, you must remain healthy. Use these three simple tips to stay at the top of your game for the whole season.

Tip #1 – Improve flexibility! Stretch often so your over-all flexibility actually increases during the season. Flexibility is at the top of the list when we are looking to avoid injury.

Tip #2 – Eat Right and Stay hydrated! Good nutrition for every meal is a requirement for athletes trying to perform at the top of the game. Eat lots of lean protein and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Good hydration allows muscles to move easier and helps remove toxins and waste from the body. Drink enough water so that your body is well hydrated and your waste water (urine) is light in color. This is an easy way to ensure you are well hydrated.

Tip #3 – Be responsible for and require others to share the responsibility for safety in your team. Don’t allow anyone to drop their guard or get lax just because you have a routine that everyone feels comfortable performing. Safety is, to some degree, being ready for the unexpected and accidental. Take an extra few minutes at your next practice to refocus everyone on good spotting practices.

These tips should help keep you as an individual performing at a high level and an important contributor to your teams success. They should also allow you to finish strong when the big competitions come at the end of the season. Good luck and stay healthy!
