He is originally from Hartford City, Indiana where he cheered at Blackford High School for two years. He says that the reason he started cheerleading in high school was because his uncle cheered at Purdue and he greatly looked up to him. Upon leaving Blackford High, Matt attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Indiana University Cheerleading Cream Squad. Matt on cheering in college, “It was a great experience. I had fun every step of the way, not to mention I came into college with a family and left with one. I learned not only how to cheer a game and expanded my skill set, but also how to be a respectful and successful member of society. There is only so much that your parents can teach you. In college when you’re finally on your own you need a mentor, at Indiana that was my cheerleading family and the athletic community.” Matt now coaches cheerleading in Indianapolis and is excited for the future of the sport.
